DECT

A wireless standard based on Time Division Multiple Access standard used by Wireless Local Loop given by ETSI.

ETSI

European Telecommunications standards institute.

DIU

DECT Interface Unit – The brain of the DECLoop system, which can work in both a transparent mode (extension of network coverage) and stand alone exchange mode.

RBS

Relay Base Station – A repeater used for extension of the signal to the subscribers premises incase they are located far from the Base Stations.(A far as 25 kms).

BSD

Base Station Distributor – Sometimes, the base stations need not be co-located with the DIU or be near say within 4 km radius of it. In this case, the extension from the DIU to the CBS is done using the BSD. This extension could be over Microwave, Optical Fiber or Copper lines.

CBS

Compact Base Station – The CBS are the sub-system of the DECLoop that interacts with the subscribers viz the customer premises equipment or the Wallsets.

WS

Wallsets are the CPE (Customer Premises equipment) which are connected to the Phone instrument. Provide voice connectivity.

WS-IP

Wallset-Internet Protocol provides an interface at the customer premises for both voice and data services, each of which can be provided individually or simultaneously.

MWS

Multi wallset provides connection to four phone instruments at the same time.

OMC

Operations and Maintenance console provides a virtual look at the status of each card in a DIU. It has a hot stand by protection.

EMS

Element Management System provides a unique feature of managing up to 100 DIU together.

IP

Internet Protocol – The protocol on which the whole internet is based.

CPE

Customer Premises Equipment

PSTN

Public Switched Telephone network

TDMA

Time Division Multiple Access – With reference to radio, a Multiple access scenario where multiple transmitters share the same frequency but different time slots thereby providing a very efficient communication system since frequency is a fixed commodity and difficult to reuse at short distances.

ADPCM

Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation – A compression technique that encodes only the difference between sequential samples

ITU

International Telecommunications Union – An International Telecommunications standardization body.

E1

Wide-area digital transmission scheme used predominantly in Europe that carries data at a rate of 2.048 Mbps.

GFSK

Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying

G3 Fax

G3 is one of the communication procedures for FAX standardized by ITU: International Telecommunication Union. At present, it is the most popularized communication procedure.

G.726

G.726 is an implementation of ITU-T G.726 standard for conversion linear or A-law or µ-law PCM to and from a 40, 32, 24 or 16 kbit/s channel. The specification uses Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (ADPCM) technique which is applicable to all waveforms, high-quality audio, modem data etc.

PPP

Point-to-Point Protocol. This protocol is a way to connect your computer to the Internet over telephone lines. PPP is replacing an older protocol, SLIP, as it is more stable and has more error-checking features

SNMP

An abbreviation for Simple Network Management Protocol, an Internet standard that defines methods for remotely managing active network components such as hubs, routers, and bridges.

SIR

Signal to Interference Ratio - A ratio between the wanted signal power in the channel and the interference in the channel

GOS

Grade of Service - Grade of Service defines the quality of a telephone service in terms of a user receiving a network busy signal.
